Conclusion of Brainstorming Session
Reason 1 - Why is it we choose this topic?
People struggling with their mental health might develop an unhealthy coping mechanism
Mental health is a common issue within the youth nowadays. It affects almost everyone around you and it is important to create awareness about mental health for easier identification and getting early treatment for those individuals.
Some people still think that mental illness is a some kind act of weakness or "an exaggeration"
There is a great misconception for the mentally ill. Many think these people are lazy or just making it up.
There is also the attitude that these people are either crazy, possessed by demons, violent, out of control and unsafe. These are negative labels that have been attached due to the lack of awareness.
The particular person will be isolated and will be apart from others to just keep them in a lonely space.
Those mental health issues people will start to act very differently if compared with those previous days since their mental health is affected very badly such as being quiet and always in the same place just to keep away from others.
People surrounding us might hate us if we are going through a mental health issue. The circle of us will get smaller and eventually it will become zero. Thus , we have no one to communicate our problems and the mental health issue will eventually get higher and higher.
People with mental health issues are becoming more and more afraid to talk about it and step forward to get treatment because the stigma and hate they receive when receiving the treatment can keep the person from getting help.
Reason 2 - What is the implication if these issues are never solved?
It can be extremely painful and traumatic for all of the family members. As individual’s mental health problems have consequences for others within their social networks, most their family. Also looking after family members with mental illness can be an extremely stressful time and coping with the stress may raise various problems such as migraines, insomnia and emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, guilt, fear, anger and confusion.
Parents might also blamed themselves for their failure of taking care of their children
A person who has a mental health disorder might develop a long-term physical issue if goes untreated. For instance, long-term anxiety and panic attacks can cause your brain to release stress hormones on a regular basic.
This issue might affect our daily routine such as eating habits. We could not able to eat peacefully and we would not get the sufficient vitamins and minerals that a normal human been needs. In addition.we could not able to sleep peacefully too since we are thinking the same issue for a multiple time and for a longer times where it causes migraines and might we can undergo a symptom of depression.
This mental health issue does affect our body condition worse since irregular exercises and changes in the eating habits where it can have serious consequences for their physical health and development.
Reason 3 - Provide statistical data or credible report to support the issues
With the increasing recognition of child mental health issues and the use of more psychotropic medications, the number of young adults with mental health problems entering college has significantly increased. In a survey of 274 institutions, 88 % of counseling center directors reported an increase in “severe” psychological problems over the previous 5 years including learning disabilities, self-injury incidents, eating disorders, substance use, and sexual assaults
By 2020, mental health conditions are expected to be the second biggest health problem affecting Malaysians after heart diseases.A national survey by the Ministry of Health found that one in three Malaysian adults aged 16 years and above (29.2 per cent) have a mental health condition, nearly triple from 11.2 per cent in 2006. We need to take this issue very seriously since huge number of people are affected in the mental health issue at the earlier stage of 24 itself which will eventually will leads us to suicide cases.
